Father
was a typical Chinese scholar, groomed and educated in a long history of family
scholastic tradition. Proud to be a son of the House of Three Reflections
,
a descendant of Sage
as well as the
offspring of Filial Pieties
, and unperturbed by a life time of violent disturbances due to
wars, revolutions and changing conditions of life, he held dearly to heart the
moral teachings of his forefathers, yet never imposed them on his children. Tradition was
the life force for father, so he
preferred to attire in traditional robes. Father loved literature and art his entire life and befriended great many well known
contemporary Chinese artists, poets and scholars every where he went.
While in Hong Kong he
established a literary club with 28 friends of similar tastes in 1967 to promote arts, literatures and traditional moral values. He then
published a series of nonprofit literary periodicals for distribution. The
followings are the cover page, the Introduction and the Foreword written in father's own hand
writing for his
starting edition of the series. This
edition contains pictures of 20 seals in carved calligraphic art, 5 Chinese
paintings and 403 classical poems created by more than 2 dozen authors. Unfortunately I
cannot put them in this website because this is not the appropriate site for
poetry. Perhaps someday I would republish all the family poetry, including
those by my uncle Kee In, but then, that book should contain more than
seven consecutive generations of family poetical works...
