This is a Hot Pot made in one whole piece to prevent nasty accidents. The chains are for carrying the pot when it was hot. Notice they are joined with the rest of the pot in one piece complete with linking rings that are seamless. Apparently 2500 years ago metal welding and soldering of joints were a well practiced technology! But think of the advanced know how they had already possessed in " lost wax " method of casting, which allowed them to do delicate hollow castings and exactly what they desire in making utensils, artistic objects and weaponries. There are over 10 tons of bronze objects in Marquis Zeng's grave, weapons and all, there must be some sizable scale of copper mines and refineries around. Remember these were the days before Greek philosopher Aristotle was born.
